  • Boox Picco to be priced at $100!

There are multiple reports that the Boox Picco will sell for $100. This definitely positions the Boox Picco head-to-head with the XTEINK X4 Pro. The other rumor doing the rounds is that the Picco will not support DRM-files.

  • Boox Picco Announced at IFA – November Release

    Boox Picco

The Boox Picco is official, with the company demonstrating the device at IFA. The Boox Picco is a 4.7″ EINK device with a touchscreen, frontlight and… drumroll… USB C! I can hear XTEINK users frustrated with the pogo plug getting excited about the Boox Picco already. The Picco does not run Android 11, as originally hoped. It seems to be a custom OS. So we can hope it’s an ESP32 device and that we’ll have another reader that supports Crosspoint. Price is unknown, but it would need to be $100 to be competitive with XTEINK’s X4 Pro. Feature wise, the Boox Picco is a real alternative to the XTEINK X4 Pro from a company well known for EINK devices.

  • XTEINK X4 Pro is listed on Amazon.com (US Only)

XTEINK X4 Pro Amazon - White

The XTEINK X4 Pro is now listed on Amazon.com on the official XTEINK store. Surprisingly, the listing shows a white/gray X4 Pro. This is despite all my sources are telling me the X4 Pro will not be available in white anytime soon. A reminder, XTEINK devices sold on Amazon are unlocked. The shipping time is also much faster than direct from XTEINK. If you’re outside the US, your best option is still to buy from XTEINK.

Update: Sold Out. There was briefly stock, but it’s now listed as sold out. So could have been a listing error, the page is still live.

  • The RK3566 EINK microreader from China

    RK3566 Mainboard

There’s a new kid coming to the block with the creative name of RK3566. This is a 4.7″ microreader being prototyped in China. The RK3566 has also gone by the name Moiridium. Early versions showed a device running Android 11 and running the game Genshin Impact (which looks wild on an EINK screen). Maybe this technically makes it not a microreader. But the circuit board is stamped 4.7″ e-Reader, so we’ll call it a microreader for now.

  • XTEINK X4 Pro – No White Version Anytime Soon

Some disappointing news. The XTEINK X4 Pro will not be available in white/gray anytime soon. This has been confirmed from multiple sources. Yes, I know there are white versions in the wild. These were limited runs and given out to reviewers, creators, influencers, etc. If you want a white X4 sized device, your choice is really limited to the soon-to-be released X4C. At least the X4C will be available in black and also gray.

  • EEGOREAD A4 – Limited 1,000 Unit China Sale

    EEGO Sept 4th Sale

The EEGOREAD aka EEGO A4 will be available in China on September 4th as a limited 1,000 unit production run for RMB249 ~US$40. Given the limited production volume, I wouldn’t expect units to pop up on AliExpress unless they have a hefty price premium. This is the no frontlight version. As a refresher, this the EEGOREAD A4 is a 4″ EINK touchscreen device, resolution is 768×552 at 238PPI. It’s built on the same ESP32-S3 processor found in other microreaders. Having used both the frontlight and non-frontlight versions, I would wait for the frontlight model.

  • XTEINK X4 Classic X4C Release Date set for September!

XTEINK have posted to reddit and instagram hinting the X4 Classic or X4C will be released soon. I’m betting sometime next week. There’s already a product page for the XTEINK X4C listed on the main XTEINK site.  It’s currently listed at $79 and as “Sold Out”. What we do know is the XTEINK X4C will be available in black, gray, and it will use the pogo plug for charging.
